Welcome to Learning 2.0, an online learning discovery programme that encourages library staff to learn new technologies. This programme is for staff of the participating libraries of the LNSS Project - Regional Network for Staff Development, and is being co-ordinated by the staff development team at the Glucksman Library, University of Limerick. It was first developed for the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County and has since been used by libraries all over the world.
The 23 Things
Listed below are the 23 things that you can do on the web to explore and expand your knowledge of the internet and web 2.0. This is a 12 week programme beginning on 23 February 2009 and tasks will be emailed to staff on a weekly basis. Once you've signed up, you're encouraged to complete all 23 things by 29 May 2009 - everyone who completes the programme by then will receive a certificate of completion.
Week 1 Introduction
Thing 1 Find out about the learning 2.0 programme and then let's get started.
Week 2 Blogging
Thing 2 Set up a Google Account. (if you haven't already set one up!)
Thing 3 Set up your own blog and add your first post.
Week 3 RSS & Newsreaders
Thing 4 Learn about and set up an RSS Feeds and set up your own Bloglines newsreader account or google reader account.
Week 4 Online Photos & Images
Thing 5 Create a Flickr account.
Thing 6 Have some Flickr fun and discover some Flickr mashups & third party sites.
Thing 7 Play around with an online image generator.
Week 5 Virtual Libraries & Web 2.0 Awards List
Thing 8 Take a look at LibraryThing and catalogue some of your favourite books.
Thing 9 Use googleBOOKS to view some digitised books online.
Thing 10 Explore any site about the Web 2.0 awards list, play with it and then blog about it.
Week 6 Tagging, Del.icio.us & Technorati
Thing 11 Learn about tagging and discover del.icio.us (a social bookmarking site)
Thing 12 Explore Technorati and learn how tags work with blog posts.
Week 7 Wikis
Thing 13 Learn about Wikis and discover some innovative ways that libraries are using them.
Week 8 Podcasts, Downloadable Videos, eAudiobooks & ebooks.
Thing 14 Discover YouTube and a few sites that allow users to upload and share videos.
Thing 15 Play around with SitePal
Thing 16 Learn about podcasts. and have a look at Lastfm
Thing 17 Learn about eAudiobooks & ebooks.
Week 9 Social Networking
Thing 18 Take a look at some Social Networking Sites.
Thing 19 Discover instant messaging.
Thing 20 Explore Twitter as a social networking tool

Thing 21 Discover online Gaming.
Week 11 Office 2.0
Thing 22 Learn about Zoho writer and GoogleDocs.
Explore and play around with GoogleMAPS.
Week 12
Thing 23 Summarise your thoughts about this programme.
